Leadership in the New Year — A Unique Opportunity for Change

I hope that the Christmas spirit is alive and well for all of you this season and that you have had a little time to stop and enjoy your families, friends and the many blessings of the year almost finished. You know it is a seasoned tradition at this time of the year to reflect on what you have and have not accomplished, what you would like to do in the new year ahead and the commitments (or resolutions) required to achieve those goals. Well, the good news is that nothing could be more rewarding in the new year ahead than the opportunity to change, grow, improve or strengthen your resolve to be a more effective leader!

Leadership comes from resolve and hard work so the good news for all is that regardless of how well you preformed as a leader in 2010 there is an opportunity to be even better in 2011. So, as you plan for the new year ahead, allow yourself to think about the effectiveness of your communication to your team, the clarity of your vision, the strength of the leadership team that supports you and the development of your organization to face the realities of your market. In this slow recovering economy, the businesses that win will be those who are best prepared from a leadership perspective to win in their respective market. So, as you envision a successful new year ahead ask yourself how well you have prepared from a leadership perspective.

This has been a learning year for me from a leadership perspective and I feel it is really good to say as a leader that I continue to learn. I am still learning how to more effectively communicate with other leaders. I am continuing to learn how to listen more effectively as a leader. I am working hard to be a stronger leadership model and mentor. Those are things that can make me a stronger, more effective leader and in turn have much stronger business results.
